Prior to joining the Circuit of Wales development, the £375 million scheme that will have a transformational affect on the South Wales valleys and put South Wales at the heart of the UK automotive sector, Martin held senior roles within the global automotive arena. These include; developing and successfully running the Bahrain International Circuit, Head of Ford Europe’s Motorsport Programme, senior positions within McLaren and Bernie Ecclestone’s Formula One management company, as well as being part of the FIA, world motorsport’s governing body under two presidents, Jean-Marie Balestre and Max Mosley. Born in Gloucester with the family home on the Hereford / Gloucester border, Martin Whitaker, Chief Executive of Circuit of Wales, was educated in the West Country at Downs School and then at Blundell’s School, before moving on to Cirencester Agricultural College.
