James Price is chief executive of Transport for Wales (TfW) which was established by the Welsh Government in 2016. As well as operating train services across the Wales and Borders rail network,TfW is overseeing one of the biggest infrastructure projects ever seen in Wales with the £1.1bn South Wales Metro project. Work electrifying the core Valley Lines into Cardiff is close to completion and will transform capacity and the frequency of services with new rolling stock. TfW is also implementing a new franchise model for the bus industry in Wales, following the passing of Welsh Government legislation. A professional economist, James started his career in civil engineering contracting before moving into the civil service. At the Welsh Government, he held responsibility for infrastructure delivery, firstly as Director for Transport and subsequently as Director General and Deputy Permanent Secretary.
